Joses started his interest in science at the age of 8, by toying with various chemicals from his chemical science kit that he got for his birthday. After he has set himself on fire and almost burned the house down, he chose a more safe and more interesting side of science.
Since his parents kept the capital expenditures for their children to an absolute minimum, he had absolutely insufficient fundings to purchase a proper radio. The banged-up leftovers from his older siblings were the only means to hear music. Since he liked playing music loud, he was confronted with the disastrous sound quality that these seventies Japan radios deliver. By disassembling and testing, he discovered that it was the plastic housing and mainly the speaker that caused the terrible sound. Also the connected external speaker wasn’t able to produce the sound that he desires.
Thanks to many acoustics books and a electronic shop that sold cheap industrial surplus speakers from the nearby Philips Factory, he was able to experiment with various speaker chassis, housings and filters.
Some years went by and he started learning Electrical Engineering from the age of twelve, he also started building a high power amplifier and receiving repair jobs for audio equipment of acquaintances. From this he learned that the weakest part in the sound reproduction chain is the speaker. So he decided to leave the amplifier development to others and focus on developing the best speakers that his pocket money allowed.
These developments yielded swift success as he received the assignment to build a copy of the (at that time) popular Bose Acoustimass speakers for half the price. The result was not a close copy but even a improved version.
Around his twenties he finally started playing music more seriously and found that there is also much to improve in musical Instrument reproduction. After selling his three way horn system speakers (that he developed) to a drive in disco show, he found a new challenge by developing small sound reinforcement systems that sound gigantic but also extremely good.In the meantime were his carpenter skills more developed and grew fond of organic designs. This resulted in various uniquely shaped speakers but also instruments of interesting design. Since he now is able to build all designs that he can imagine, he decided to allow others to obtain designs that they are imagining, via his company Joses Music-and-Sound.
